Some of us read 1984 diligently in school and lean towards more analog technology (never tried an AI face filter; wary of voice assistants). Some of us only read the Sparknotes, so the concept of a video doorbell seems like a no-brainer.
The Ring doorbells have always been great, relatively compact budget picks among the growing variety of smart home surveillance brands. They’re especially solid value picks for products that hover around the $100 range, with this (Amazon tested and certified) refurbished Ring Video Doorbell 4 presenting an even larger bargain today at 33% off (a new one goes for $179.99). In addition to getting Amazon’s refurbished stamp of approval, it comes with the same year-long warranty as a new Ring.
It’s also smaller (and more inconspicuous) than most Ring doorbells, even with the camera. That’s all while capturing clear 1080p HD images, and delivering clear, precise motion alerts.
It does need to be hardwired, though, which isn’t always the case for video doorbells, but Amazon reviewers say the setup is surprisingly easy. It also only works with Amazon’s Alexa, which is a pro for anyone already setup with Amazon’s smart assistant. With the addition of a Ring Protect Basic Plan ($4 a month or $40 a year), you can also record motion events (to store videos and review them for up to two months).
Users can customize privacy zones (and add audio privacy) and receive phone notifications when some rings the doorbell or triggers motion sensors. Amazon reviewers praise those features, in addition to a legible night vision function and solid range.
Ring Video Doorbell 4
A great value for anyone looking for a security camera/doorbell combo, and compact for something with such a strong camera.
